Well, as you can see, the title of my blog, "My Distracted Life," pretty much sums up my existence. Why? Here is an example. I created this blog site on August 3rd, 2016. I started 4 blog posts but all of them are in draft. In summary, I have not posted to this blog in 6 months. In fact, I have not posted a blog post ever on this site.
Today, I have decided to break down and finally write a post, but shortly after writing this first paragraph, my wife distracted me. For someone who has been on the computer for most of her adult life, she still has trouble downloading pictures from the cloud and attaching to an email. She needed to fire off a complaint letter to Lowes because of the shoddy workmanship performed by one of their contractors. Between helping her compose the email and showing her the steps in downloading the file from the cloud, it took all of 45 minutes of my time. Between, my 45 minute commute to and from my job, trying to fit in time for a decent workout and helping my wife with her business at night and being a full-time dad and husband, my life is one big distraction. Don't get me wrong, I am a big proponent of lifestyle design to make my life less distracted. I use virtual assistants to offload the mundane work that does not move me forward in my goals. I have listened to every podcast that Tim Ferriss has posted. I have created multiple streams of income between, selling on Ebay and Amazon, setting up affiliate income sites and making money on google advertising. Yet, generally, I hit a plateau on increasing that revenue because inevitably my health suffers and I then have to focus on getting healthy and leaving less time to build the income from my other streams not to mention building my wife's business.
Yet, am I really distracted. In the pursuit of constant improvement, I think I do pretty well. I rarely drink, I don't do drugs, I do not smoke. I do not drink pop. At 51, I have never been on any medications. But one thing I like to do is eat. After getting down to 193 in March of 2016, my wife told me I am getting too thin and need to stop, so I did. In a matter of 9 months, I zoomed backed up to 213 lbs and my blood pressure hit 155/90 in November 2016. This is pretty ironic because, in November of 2015, my blood pressure was even worse and I had to do something about it. In 4 months I dropped 30 lbs and brought my blood pressure back to normal. So here I was again, this past Thanksgiving with my blood pressure and weight back up.
Luckily, when I put my mind to it and having the formula from before, I decided to drop the weight again as I did not want to get on meds. But this time my journey will take on a whole new look. Last time I did a lot of juicing and calorie restriction along with a lot of cardio and walking. This time, I did not use juicing and decided to do the Slow Carb diet based on the book The 4-Hour Body by Tim Ferriss. This is a slow carb high protein program without the calorie restriction. I actually had picked this book up only after I got down to 193 and thought, I had no need for it now. I will post a different article based on my results, triumphs, and setbacks from The 4-Hour Body on another day.
You always hear about all the people who have made great strides in their life with this life hack or this app or this guru but it always seems you do not hear about the ones that struggle. Luckily, I do not get discouraged so easily and I continue to plug away at becoming a better person and human, and despite setbacks, I can say that my persistence seems is as high as anyone of the people who I am around during the day. MORE TO COME...............
